Explore On Your Days Off With Wildlife Sense
Being on a beautiful island like Kefalonia you could argue that everyday is an off day. However, during your program with Wildlife Sense you’ll get two days off a week to do whatever you’d like. This can seem quite daunting beforehand, being on an island, with lets say 20 complete strangers and two days a week to do absolutely anything. That is where I come in, below I have listed just a few things I did on my days off, to give you some ideas & inspiration for your program.
Scuba Diving
With Skala being a marine conservation based program, you’ll quite possibly find others who are scuba divers, giving you a perfect excuse to go diving with Blue Manta Diving in Skala. The dive sites here are incredible, you’ll find really cool wrecks from hundreds of years ago and get to dive among sea grass meadows. Who knows, you may get super lucky and bump into a turtle while you are down there.
Boat Trips
For those not comfortable renting a boat or wanting a more sit back & relax sort of day, then the many boat trips run across the island will be perfect for you. With some departing from Skala, you will have a day of relaxation with drinks, where you’ll get to stop off at different set locations to jump in the water and you’ll even get lunch.
If you decide to spend a night in Argostoli, then you could always jump on a day or sunset cruise that leaves the harbour here regularly. With all operators stopping at White Cliffs, Rabbit Island and XI Beach, you’ll have an amazing day exploring more of the Kefalonian coastline. If you do choose a cruise from here, then I definitely recommend Queen Bee, the brothers who run this boat are a breed amongst themselves. You won’t only get an incredible boat trip but also a day full of entertainment by them both.
I should say that I did spend a month on Kefalonia, so I did have a bit more time than most to explore the island. However, like me, you’ll find that even after a month here, there was still so much left to do and explore. So my advice to you is to make the most of every day you have in this piece of paradise. Whether you have 3 hours free or a day, make the most of it, you’ll regret it when you get home otherwise.
