Mounda Beach

Found on the southernmost part of the island, Mounda Beach stretches for 2.8 kilometres and is one of the longest beaches on Kefalonia. Just 2km away from Skala, the waters here are warm, shallow and crystal blue, making it a favourite for families. With it’s length, you’ll have no trouble in finding a quiet spot to set up for the day, although I should pre warn you, the further you go along the beach, you may find the off nudist.

Kite and windsurfers also love this beach, favouring its long shoreline and foamy water. For those not looking for the adrenaline rush, the flat beach provides a great walk, with some impressive cliffs at the end and plenty of greenery and sand dunes to admire. With a beach bar, restaurant & shop, there’s a couple of choices on where to grab food, although I would definitely recommend the Mounda Beach restaurant that is set back a little from the beach. For families wanting to relax, or others wanting to get a tan, then you’ll find some beach beds that you can rent for the day as well.

Snorkeling

With it’s shallow and crystal clear waters, Mounda Beach is a great place to not only learn to snorkel but also see some cool marine life. From small rays, to different species of fish and even turtles, you never know what you may see while out in the water.

Loggerhead Sea Turtles

As I mentioned, you can actually find loggerhead sea turtles here. During nesting season (April-June) you may see turtles along the shoreline, returning to the same region they hatched in to mate. During the night females will come to land and lay their eggs before returning to the water. From May onwards, these eggs will begin to hatch, with turtle hatchlings making for the water during the night also. However, it is very important that we stay off the beaches during this time and not interrupt this wildlife spectacle.
